Core Brief

Briefing Point 1: Upgrading from WebCT to Blackboard Learn

Ulster's Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) provides staff and students with access to a range of online educational and administrative tools that support teaching and learning. Between now and September 2011, a programme of work will be completed which will upgrade our VLE from Blackboard Vista (commonly referred to as WebCT) to Blackboard Learn - this change is necessary as Blackboard will cease to support Vista in 2013.

This is the natural upgrade path and offers a number of pedagogic and technical benefits to the University, with relatively low risks in terms of transition, support, training and cost. All courses will be taught in Blackboard Learn from September 2011 onwards.

In order to keep staff informed and updated about progress and changes in this area, a Blackboard Learn Information Point website has been set up and is available at www.ulster.ac.uk/bbinfo

Staff are encouraged to bookmark this website and check back regularly for new and updated information about the upgrade. This site also offers the facility to send questions directly to the upgrade support team.
